Belgrade sits where the Sava meets the Danube. That geography is a useful starting point for understanding the city, but a visit becomes more interesting when the view is connected with streets, museums and the places where people spend their day.

The fortress and Kalemegdan area offer context for the relationship between the rivers and the older city. Start by understanding what you are looking at instead of trying to include every landmark in a single walk.
